About Shane

Shane Dittmar (they/them) is a New York City-based writer, composer, and advocate who gravitates toward narratives centering underrepresented voices and the stories we tell about ourselves. Their original musical theatre projects have been featured at Roundabout Theatre Company, 54 Below, Joe’s Pub, and in performances nationwide, and they also work as a music director and orchestrator for productions throughout New York. Their award-winning choral compositions have been performed by school, community, and professional choirs across three continents. A member of the BMI Advanced Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, Shane won the 2023 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Play Festival with co-writer Sair Kaufman for a ten-minute musical called “The Velociraptor’s Very Good Day”. Shane studied Music Education and now works as an accessibility advocate in both the performing arts and healthcare spaces. All of their creative pursuits reflect a commitment to stories that amplify underrepresented voices and blend emotional depth with humor and wit. They grew up in North Carolina and now live in upper Manhattan with their guide dog, Chevelle.
